Free census transcripts at UK Genealogy Archives

Welcome to our census database. Here you will find free transcripts of the national population census' for England and Wales from 1841-1901.

The first census of use to genealogists was taken in 1841, when names, approximate ages, and counties of birth were indicated. The national population census' prior to this, those for 1801, 1811, 1821, and 1831, were destroyed due to containing only statistical information.

The aim of this database is to hopefully give the novice family historian a helping hand in getting their research underway.

You may like to start by browsing the parishes we have transcribed, alternatively just enter an ancestors name into the search box below. We wish you the best of luck with your research.
